Barbara (Bobbie) "Bobbie" Smith Obituary

Barbara (Bobbie) Smith passed away at Stamford Hospital Sunday, April 23, 2006, after a long illness. Born in Passaic, NJ in 1931, she was a resident of Darien for over 35 years.


Born as the daughter of Mr. Edward and Paula Blonkowski of Clifton, NJ. Barbara graduated from designing school and worked as a designer for Philip Hulitar of New York and as a fashion model for Clairol, before marrying Donald Paul Smith of Darien in 1954. Mr. Smith is presently serving as the local Republican Registrar of Voters. She was a long time parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church and active in community services.


She is survived by two sons, Donald Paul Smith II and his wife Ann of Willmette, IL and Christopher Mark Smith and his wife Tina of Columbia, MD and a sister, Mildred DiLaura of Rye, NH. She has two grandchildren, Audrey age 17 and Eliot age six.


The family will received friends and relatives for viewing at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Friday, April 28, 2006 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. After a funeral Mass to be celebrated by Father Michael Madden at St. John R. C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 9:00 AM, she will be interred at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.


In lieu of remembrances, the family has asked that they be directed to Post 53 Ambulance Service, P. O. Box 2066, Darien, CT 06820, who aided in over 40 transports from 1996.
