Obituary of John Joseph Albero

John J. Albero, 89, a resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Stamford Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on October 19, 1922 in Rockville Center, NY, he was the son of the late Philomena Molisse and Aniello Albero.
John attended Stamford Public Schools. He served with the U.S. Army, 45th Calvary Reconnaissance Troop during World War II. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead. He was discharged in November 28, 1945.
Prior to serving with the U.S. Army, he worked for the Yale & Towne. After being discharged from the Army, he went to Refrigeration School in White Plains, NY and then went to work for Pickwick Ice Cream as a field refrigeration technician until his retirement.
He was an avid pinochle player and loved the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He also enjoyed horseracing. John was a devoted grandfather who never missed any event in his grandchildren's lives. He attended countless baseball, football, hockey, softball games and dance recitals. He was always there for encouragement.
John was predeceased by his wife , Viola P. Albero. He is survived by three children, John A. Albero and his wife Pamela of Stamford; Cheryl Poltrack and her husband Frank of Stamford and Debi Albee and her husband Richard of Plainville, MA; and five grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Felicia of Houston, TX; Lisa Poltrack DeLuca and her husband Joseph of Greenwich; Amy Albero and her fianc Chris Obara of Norwalk; Cassie Albee of Massachusetts and Joshua Cohen also of Massachusetts. He is survived by three brothers, Anthony Albero and Thomas Albero both of Darien; Frank Albero and his wife Marie of Norwalk; and one sister Madeline Roman and her husband Joseph of Darien. They were not only siblings but they were best friends. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
