Obituary of Mary Anna Rogers

Mary Anna Rogers, a long-time Darien resident died on May 25th at her home in Venice, Florida. She was 83. Born in Dallas, TX on March 10, 1923, she and her husband William L. Rogers, moved to Darien from Scarsdale, NY in 1956, raised their five children in one of the old Weed homes on Noroton Ave., before retiring to Florida in 1981. Mr. Rogers predeceased her in 1980. She was an active member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church and a frequent volunteer at the DCA Thrift Shop.
Mrs. Rogers attended Mary Baldwin and Emerson Colleges after graduating from Bronxville High School in 1940. After college she pursued a career in radio broadcasting with positions at WFAS in White Plains and later at WSTC in Stamford. Before retiring she took a position as executive assistant to the Director at the Darien YMCA.
Wishing to remain active she decided to re-enter the work force by taking a full-time position at the South Florida Science Museum in West Palm Beach. She became an avid writer of short stories published for several collections distributed nationally.
Mrs. Rogers is the daughter of the late William L. and Corrine Logan of Kerrville, TX. She is survived by a sister, Julia Carvin of West Palm Beach, Florida; and five children: Robin Drayer of NYC, Logan Rogers of Venice, FL, Lorin Devine of Santa Cruz, CA, Peter Rogers of Darien, and William Rogers Jr., of Rocks Village, MA. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, William Logan Jr., a sister Eloise Bedford, both from Texas and one grandchild, Michael Rogers.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 3rd at the Fisherman’s Net Community Church at 11:00AM in Venice FL. The Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 10:00AM at the Noroton Presbyterian Chapel on the Post Road in Darien. Interment will be private. The Lawrence Funeral Home is making arrangements in Darien.
