John Munoz Foster, a long-time resident of Darien and Rowayton, CT, Nantucket, MA and formerly of Montclair, NJ died peacefully Saturday, July 7 surrounded by members of his family at Stamford Hospital, CT. Mr. Foster, 75, was the husband of June Hayward Foster for almost 40 years. They were married in 1972 merging their families.
Mr. Foster was born on November 23, 1936 in East Orange, NJ the son of the late John Edward Foster and Isabel Munoz Foster of Montclair, NJ. He was predeceased by his half brother, Charles E. Foster. Mr. Foster, graduating from Montclair Academy in 1954, served as president of his senior class and of the student council, editor-in-chief of the year book and football team co-captain. He was selected All-State in his senior year, along with other outstanding scholastic athletes that included Aubrey Lewis from Montclair High School. Mr. Foster was also distinguished by the receipt of the faculty Head Boy Award. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1958 where he was elected president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and was a member of Casque & Gauntlet.
Mr. Foster spent his early professional career with Fieldcrest Cannon, Inc. holding profit and loss responsibilities for large mill complexes and major private label accounts. After serving as Fieldcrest's Division Vice President, he became Senior Vice President in 1978 for the executive search firm of Boyden International, managing the New York Office and serving on their Board of Directors. He continued his executive search career by founding Foster Resources and Company in 1992, as well as pursuing his diverse creative talents by joining AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists). This gave him more opportunities to express his love of acting, and singing that led to a career in Voice-Overs. Locally, he was a member and a soloist of The Connecticut Choraliers, as well as soloist for a variety of community and family occasions.
Mr. Foster was a long time member of the Wee Burn Country Club where he was a director as well as active golfer, a member of the Sankaty Golf Club on Nantucket Island - a place dear to his heart. Formerly, he was a member of the Montclair Golf Club, and a member of the Union League Club, New York, NY.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Foster is survived by his children and their spouses, John E. Foster, Carmita F. McGeary, and stepchildren, Barbara R. Hunter, William W. Hunter, James C. Hunter and fourteen grandchildren. The grandchildren's names are Alexander and Annie Foster; Justin, John, James, Carmita Joy, and Michael McGeary; Katherine Meckus; Derek, Kimberly, and Rachael Hunter; Carlton, Charles and Catherine Hunter. Grandchildren that shared their feelings said: "They will miss Pop's wonderful smile, his voice, his hugs and the loving interest he showed to each one of them."
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, August 18, at St. Luke's Parish, 1864 Boston Post Road, CT.
