Obituary of Stephen M. Barker

Stephen M. Barker, a resident of Stamford, CT and a former 42 year resident of Darien, CT, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. Born July 10, 1917 in Ithaca, NY, he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Edna L.S. Barker. He was 88. Mr. Barker graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. degree. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He fought in North Africa and Italy and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Service Cross. Mr. Barker has worked as a marketing executive and as a management consultant. He was owner and director of Packaging Strategy Associates and Marketing Strategy Associates. He was a former member of various professional associations. He is a current member of various veterans’ associations, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans’ of America. He is survived by his wife, Ann S. Barker of Stamford; his son, Rev. Fredrick T. Barker of Derby Center, VT and two grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Thomas G. Barker of San Diego, CA and one sister, Mary B. Weiss of Chevy Chase, MD. He is predeceased by two brothers, E. Gilbert and Robert Barker. Services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the United Church of Derby, P. O. Box 294, Derby, VT 05829. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien, CT handled the arrangements.
