Obituary of Pier Oliaro

Pier Oliaro, a Darien resident for 14 years, died Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Greenwich Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 4, 1957 in Melbourne, Australia. He was the son of the late Gustavo and Luigina Viali Oliaro, originally from Casale Monferrato, Italy. He was 49 years old. Pier was raised and educated in Australia and began his career as a Chartered Accountant for Deloitte & Touche in Milan, Italy. He lived and worked in many countries for Philip Morris and Kraft Foods International for over 20 years. Pier most recently was Director of Accounting Research for Altria Corp. based in New York City. He enjoyed traveling, learning new languages, cooking for his family and fishing at Pear Tree Point with his children. Pier is survived by his wife Lauren Oliaro of Darien; one son, Pier Alexander Oliaro, a junior at Darien High School; one daughter, Juliana Oliaro, a student at Holmes School; one stepdaughter Kristyn Pradas of Darien; and one brother, Angelo Oliaro of Hervey Bay, Australia. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, August 10, 1006 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
