Obituary of Mary L. Vernon

Mary L. Vernon, a resident of Darien, CT, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Stamford Hospital. Born September 8, 1922 in Evanston, IL, she was the daughter of the late Madeline and Robert Moorhead of Wilmette, IL. She was 90 years of age. Mary graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and Barat College of the Sacred Heart. She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea. She was a long-time volunteer at Stamford Hospital and an avid golfer. She also enjoyed her bridge group and investment club. With her husband, Gerald, she was a member of the Innis Arden Golf Club and the Noroton Yacht Club. Above all, she was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her four children, Gerald Vernon, Jr. and wife Anne of Fairhaven, NJ; Ann Vernon of Fairfield, CT; Margot Sullivan and husband Daniel of Darien; and William Vernon and wife Jill also of Darien; 11 grandchildren, Kathryn Kingsbery and husband James of New York, NY; Sarah Vernon and Margaret Vernon both of Hoboken, NJ; James Fallon III of Dubai, U.A.E.; Thomas Fallon and Matthew Fallon both of Fairfield, CT; Daniel Sullivan, Jr., Peter Sullivan and Connor Sullivan all of Darien; William Vernon, Jr. of New York, NY; and Cornelia Vernon of Darien; and one great grandchild, Gracie Kingsbery. She is also survived by a brother, Thomas Moorhead of Lake Forest, IL. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Gerald Vernon on September 21, 2012; a brother Robert Moorhead and a sister Ellen Gorman. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford.
