Evelyn Frate, former owner of Frate’s Wines and Liquors founded in 1956, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2006 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 90 years old. Evelyn was born February 1, 1916 in New York City, the daughter of the late Michael and Lena Orgera. She was a resident of Darien since 1940 and a former resident of Stamford from 1924 to 1940. She was predeceased by her first husband D. Nick Frate in 1970 and her second husband Joseph P. Buckley in 1995. She was an auxiliary member of the Noroton Heights Fire Department, the Piedmont Club and a member of AARP. She was a parishioner of St. John R. C. Church of Noroton. She is survived by three sons, Anthony, Roger and Jeffrey Frate all of Darien; two daughters, Judy Scott of Darien and Diane Frate of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Louis and Anthony Orgera and 2 great grandchildren, Hailey and Hunter Gould. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
