Obituary of Retha M. Reed

Retha M. Reed, a resident of Maplewood at Darien and former long-time resident of both New Canaan and Stamford, died Friday, January 15 at Stamford Hospital of natural causes. She was 92.
Born December 22, 1923 in New Edinburg, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Lee Bryan Moseley and the late Lois Tipton Moseley.
Married in 1942 to the late William Rowland Reed, she worked full-time as a secretary while her husband pursued undergraduate and masters degrees. Upon completion of his degrees, she embarked on her own college education, receiving a Bachelor of Science from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1953.
He husband's career with Continental Oil Company required moves to Texas, Oklahoma, and lastly, in 1963, to Fairfield County, Connecticut. She was a devoted wife and mother, a superlative homemaker, hostess, seamstress and artist. Her beautiful oil paintings of flowers and landscapes have graced her own home, as well as the homes of many friends and family members.
She was a faithful member of a church in whatever part of the country she lived, belonging for many years to Greenwich Baptist Church, in Greenwich, CT. There, among other roles, she served as a children's Sunday School teacher, and Chair of the Fellowship Committee.
She is survived by: her daughter, Deborah Reed Travers of Darien; her grandsons, David W. Travers, also of Darien, and Steven W. Travers, of Mechanicsville, VA; one great-grandson, Joshua Reed Travers of Mechanicsville, VA; and two brothers, Robert G. Moseley, of Hampstead, MD, and Charles F. Moseley of New Bern, NC.
She is predeceased by: her husband; two brothers, B. Paul Moseley, and J.C. Mosely; and a sister, Venita Moseley Trawick.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, in the Chapel of Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien. A reception will follow in the Skylight Lobby of the church.
