Obituary of Kathleen W. Herbert

Kathleen W. Herbert, a former resident of Darien, passed away on January 21, 2016 at her home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Born on October 23, 1922 in Stamford, she was one of 9 children born to Elizabeth Phelan Tymon and James Tymon. She was married to John E. Herbert, Sr. in 1942 who predeceased her in 2001. Kay and John were charter members of the Country Club of Darien and were avid golfers for decades. While in Florida, she walked the Fort Lauderdale beach daily and was regularly stopped by friends and strangers complimenting her on her stylist outfits. Kay will be remembered for her wit, her energy and for the family gatherings on Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving that they hosted for fifty years. Kay is survived by her children, Barbara H. Saverine and Robert P. and John E. Herbert, Jr. and Lyn Nevins; and grandchildren, Dana H. Donahue of Fairfield; Brooke E. Kreitler and Scott of Weston; R. Sloan Saverine and Jill of Darien; Chrissy-Nevins Herbert, MD of Providence, RI and John Nevins Herbert of Darien. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Alphonsus Donahue, Aiden Kreitler, Avery Kreitler and Lily Saverine. She was predeceased by brothers, Charles Tymon, James Tymon, Jack Tymon, William Tymon and Thomas Tymon and sisters, Veronica Hopkins, Rita Cantwell and Marjorie Herbert. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
