Eleanor M. Underhill, a resident of Stamford for over 60 years and a former resident of Darien and New Canaan, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Stamford Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born May 19, 1921 in New Canaan, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Gussie (Dixon) Underhill. She was 85.

Eleanor graduated from New Canaan High School and Merrill Business School. She worked for the Stamford Savings Bank, now First County Bank, from 1948 to 1984. Eleanor started as a secretary in 1948, and worked as a teller, in the mortgage department, and was secretary to several bank presidents. She became a Corporate Officer and retired as Corporate Secretary in 1984. Prior to working for the Stamford Savings Bank, she worked for Mead & Mead as a secretary. She was a long time active member of the First Congregational Church of Stamford where she as a member of the Women’s Fellowship, the chancel choir and served as The Associate Treasurer of Revenue. She was active with the D.A.R., the Stamford Women’s Club, the Underhill Society and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by eight cousins, two who live in New Canaan.

A Funeral Service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Stamford, between Bedford and Prospect Streets in Stamford on Monday, January 22, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.
