Obituary of Clara Mae McGrath

Clara Mae McGrath of Darien, CT died peacefully of natural causes at home on January 27, 2007. She was 95. Born June 8, 1911 in Dryden, Michigan, she was the daughter of Edward and Minnie Louise Foe. She graduated from the Dryden School in 1927 and then attended and graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School. Her work career spanned 45 years, including the local radio station in Pontiac and 35 years with General Motors. Upon retiring from GM, and following a brief stint at home, she returned to work for five more years – into her early 70’s – as Office Manager for a small firm near her home in Beverly Hills, MI., where she resided until 2005. In addition to her great zest for work and life in general, Clara remained an avid Bridge player and Scrabble enthusiast to her last day. She will be remembered for her good sense of humor, energy and competitiveness. She will be missed. Clara was predeceased by her first husband, Montgomery J. McGrath and her second husband, Edward Supkoski. Survivors include her sons, R. Joseph McGrath and his wife Marilyn of Roswell, Georgia, Tom McGrath and his wife Laurie of Darien, CT., and stepdaughter Victoria Kulis and her husband Dr. Richard Kulis of Bloomfield Hills, MI. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael, John, Kevin, Julie, Mark, Rick and Jeff, and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends may call 10:00 A.M. – Noon on Thursday Feb. 1 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 138 S. Main St., Almont Michigan. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Funeral Home at noon, followed by burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dryden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research, 4600 East West Highway, Suite 525, Bethesda, MD 20814 or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network [PanCan], 2141 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245.
