Obituary of Emma Howe Waddington

Emma Howe Waddington, 99, died peacefully on March 5, 2013 in Williamsburg, VA. Her husband, Lester Waddington, predeceased her, as did her two sisters, and brother.
Emma was the 2nd daughter born to Jessie Tyler Howe and Louis Wadsworth Howe in So. Glastonbury, CT. She attended Glastonbury H.S. and went on to graduate from Connecticut College for Women in 1934. After living in Elkhart, IN for 17 years, the Waddington family made their home in Darien, CT. She was a resident of Darien for almost 60 years, an active member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church, as well as being the oldest member there. She devoted much of her time to the P.E.O. Sisterhood which promotes educational opportunities for women. She served as P.E.O. State President from 1962-63.
Emma is survived by her son, James Waddington (June) and daughter, Janet Clark (Richard), 4 granddaughters, Elizabeth Bernhardt (Nicholas), Karen Kahn (Jeremy), Heather Hanson (Danny), Deborah Apel (Christopher), and 8 great grandchildren.
Both of her children, son-in law Richard, as well as granddaughters Elizabeth and Heather graduated from Darien High School. James and his family resided in Darien from 1967- 2010.
Emma will be remembered for her outgoing personality, love of family, organizational skills, creativity, positive attitude, her faith, service to church and community.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held April 27th, at 11:00AM at the Noroton Presbyterian Church Chapel.
