Ruth Anne Binns Obituary

Ruth Anne Binns, a resident of Darien, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Stamford Hospital after a strong fight against breast cancer. Born in 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Ruth (Taplin) Binns. She was 72.


Ruth Anne graduated from Stanford University in 1955 and from the University of Connecticut in 1983 from the College of agriculture and national Resources Bartlett Arboretum. She was an accomplished writer, editor and historian. Her passion became horticulture. In 1983, she started her business Ruth Anne’s Garden and provided consultations until her death.


She was a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, the Wildlife Federation, Stanford University Alumni and various Democratic committees.


Ruth Anne is survived by a daughter, Eve H. Duplessie of Greenwich and a son, Joseph B. Hall of Norwalk. She is also survived by six grandchildren: William, Andrew, Stephen and Juliet Duplessie; and Carter and Logan Hall. She was predeceased by her husband Paul A. Dohanos.


A Memorial Service will be held at the Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Jordan-Haas presiding. Interment will be private.
