Obituary of Marjorie "Martie" Merriam

Marjorie "Martie" Merriam, 89, died peacefully at her home in Darien, CT on May 28, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis T. Merriam, Jr. Martie attended The George School, Pine Manor Junior College and Northwestern University. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After college, she worked at the J. Walter Thompson Agency in New York City. She was a 60 years resident of Darien, and an active member of the Children's Aid Society and Wee Burn Country Club. Martie enjoyed tennis, golf, skiing and reading. She loved to travel and spend summers on Martha's Vineyard. She is survived by her daughters Frances Marsillio, Anne Merriam, Thayer Sifers and Julia Forbush (Steve), and son, Louis T. "Chip" Merriam III (Jessie); and 14 grandchildren who knew her as Mimi; Lauren and Evan (Emily) Marsillio, Leila and Gil Jones, Jacob, Jamie (Sydney), Jennifer (Steve) and Julianne Sifers, Thayer (Drew), Alison (Kyle), Ashley and Andrew Kamp, and Isabella ad Nicholas Merriam, and one great granddaughter, Finley Sifers.
