I had the honor and privilege of meeting and riding with Dr. Max on several occasions. I will always remember him as a consummate horseman with terrific compassion for horse and rider, and an all encompassing love of training and horses. I especially loved his kind and encouraging approach to training, and his unfailing sense of humor. Rest in peace, dear Dr. - you will be sorely missed.

I feel honored to have known Max and blessed by the wonderful memories of him coming to my farm to work with me and my Lipizzaners. He was always so kind and fun loving. The horses loved him too. We would have a great time afterwards talking about dressage, the Spanish Riding School and history over chocolate cake and coffee that my husband, Charley would have ready for us. Max and Doris have always been an inspiration to all of us who have known them. God bless them both.

Some of my fondest memories of Christmas time at home in Darien involved Max, holding his pipe and discussing the antics of our mutually loved Boxer dogs. When my daughter's passion for horses ruled our lives I found that Max had even more wisdom to share. My memories of him and his complete contentment with life with Doris set the bar for a marriage of true love. Our sincere condolences to Doris at Max's parting. He is certain to be welcomed to Heaven with wagging tails and whinnies! Pam Rusk and family

To a wonderful friend and kindest of men throughout my life. Always a kind word and a smile and a serious thought of how to do it better. Max's spirit stays with me. Leslie x

I have fond memories of watching Max walk across the Ox Ridge Field to the stables with huge bags of carrots or seeing him riding in earlier years. That is how I will always remember him. Huge hugs to Doris and Max's family. xo Flavia
