John Anderson died on Friday, April 27, 2007 in the care of Hospice at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT at the age of 89. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Cary Anderson who died in 1990, after nearly 50 years of married life together. He was born in Boston, MA and lived in the Boston area until 1950 when he moved to Rowayton, CT with his growing family. After graduation from Babson College, John joined Lever Brothers Company and later worked for Benton & Bowles Advertising Agency in New York City. He served in the armed forces during World War II, retiring with a rank of captain at the end of the war. His business career was in marketing, including twenty years with Lever and then Benton & Bowles where he served as management director on Proctor and Gamble and General Foods accounts. He then was involved in the development of condominiums in Manchester, VT. After retirement, he served as a volunteer in a number of community affairs, including the Norwalk Hospital, Americares, Meals on Wheels, and The Rowayton Library where he was a board member and treasurer. He was a member of the Silvermine Golf Club and Ischoda Yacht Club. John loved to travel, play bridge and golf and was an avid sailor. More recently, John has been living in Essex, CT with his beloved companion Joan Parker, who is also an old family friend. He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Karen Bazley of Duxbury, MA; Nancy Anderson of Chester, CT; Robin Kassis of Amherst, MA; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and his companion of fifteen years, Joan Parker. John died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family, who will certainly miss his presence in their lives. A private family interment was held at Union Cemetery in Rowayton, CT.
