Obituary of Raymond D. Street

Raymond D. Street, a lifelong resident of Darien, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Stamford Hospital. Born on July 11, 1927 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Harry Sylvester and Gladys Dennis Street. He was 86. Raymond attended Darien High School and left to join the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. He was a Plane Captain at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. He returned and worked in the family business, the Mobil then later Texaco Gas Station on the corner of Tokeneke Road and Five Mile River Road. He then went to work as Chief Marine Mechanic at Jenkins Boatyard, later becoming The Boat Works in Rowayton for several years. He was a 65 year member of the Darien Fire Department and also a member of the Rowayton Fire Department. He was a member of the Ischoda Yacht Club and a longtime director of Spring Grove Cemetery Association. He was a classic car enthusiast and had a special love of Cadillac's. Raymond is survived by his wife, Shirley D. Street of Darien; two daughters, Patricia Street Spinola and her husband, Pat; Wendy Street Baharian and her husband, Mark; and two grandchildren Raymond Alfson and his wife, Linda and Tobias Baharian and his wife Jennifer; and four great grandchildren, Amy and Joseph Alfson, and Nicole and Abagail Baharian all of Norwalk. He is also survived by two sisters, Emma Jeanne Smith of Royal Palm Beach, FL and Mary Street Jentoft of Tucker, GA. He was predeceased by a brother Harry Street, Jr. The family will receive Friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow with full military honors at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
