Jean Leet, a former Darien, Wilson Point, Wilton and Hazen, ND resident, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2016.
Born Nov. 4th, 1922 in Zap, North Dakota to Margaret Adams Stroup and Robert Martin Stroup, (Margaret) Jean Stroup grew up in and attended school in Hazen, ND. She graduated from North Dakota State University and taught high school English in Elgin, ND. Shortly after marrying her college sweetheart, Jim Leet, they moved to London, England where they lived for the next 11 years while Jim worked for Pan American World Airways. Their three children were born in England. The family moved to Connecticut in 1958.
Jean will always be remembered for the grace with which she lived her life. She loved to cook and entertain her friends and family. Jean also loved gardening, antiquing and travel. While living in Norwalk, she was instrumental in leading the community's effort to restore the historic Lockwood Matthews Mansion. She also was involved with organizations serving the needy in her communities. Jean was a long term member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church and the P.E.O. Women's organization. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and beloved grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. Jean is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jim, her children Janis Leet (John Fitch) of New Fairfield, Jay Leet (Sally) of Tigard, OR and Jonathan Leet (Tracy) of Scituate, MA; grandsons Patrick(Migneddy), Brian (Angela), James (Katy), and granddaughters Haley, Libby and Heidi, and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3pm on July 14th in the Noroton Presbyterian Church Chapel in Darien. Contributions in her memory may be made to World Vision (Worldvision.org) or P.E.O. (Peointernational.org).
