Obituary of Roy Frederick Dietrich

Roy Frederick Dietrich, of Stamford and a former resident of Darien and Stratford, CT, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007 in Stamford. Born in 1919 in Hazleton, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Anna (Koch) Dietrich. He was 88. Roy attended Hazleton Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1936. He played high school football and was active in many school activities. He attended and graduated from Cornell University. While there he became a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity which he remained active in throughout his lifetime. He graduated from the Wharton Graduate School of Business with a MBA in Accounting. Roy entered the U.S. Army in May of 1942 and with various training was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on November 8, 1943. He served in the southwest Pacific during World War II. He accepted a reserve rank of 1st Lieutenant upon discharge in November of 1945. Roy worked for Robert Gair Company as a senior internal auditor. Robert Gair Company merged with Continental Can and he retired from Continental Can in 1983 as Director Procedures and Control. He also worked for Price Waterhouse and Co. in New York City. Roy, while living in Darien, was an active member of the RTM and served as a Deacon of the Noroton Presbyterian Church. He continued his public service once he moved to Oronoque Village in Stratford by running the Tax District of the condominium association. He loved to travel, enjoyed a good round of golf, and spent many happy hours with his grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters, Carroll D. Miller of Darien, and Anne D. Turner of Olney, Maryland; a son, Roy F. Dietrich Jr. of Paris, France and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances G. Dietrich and one granddaughter, Julie Anne. Miller. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 6th at 11:00 AM at the Noroton Presbyterian Chapel, 2011 Post Road in Darien. A private family interment will be held at the Noroton Presbyterian Church Urn Garden. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien is handling the arrangements.
