Obituary of Gregory Martin Clay

Gregory Martin Clay, a 1993 Darien High School graduate died on August 29, 2013 while living in Sarasota, FL, and employed by Wyland Galleries as an Art Sales Consultant.
Greg, son of Cecilia Volpe and the late Richard Clay, was born in New Rochelle, NY on October 20, 1975. The Clay family lived in Larchmont, NY and Greg attended the Mamaroneck schools until his Mom married Tom Volpe and they moved to Darien in 1986. After graduating Darien H.S., Greg attended Roger Williams College in Bristol, RI and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.
Greg started his work career as a co-owner and operator of The East Coast Sports Bar & Grill in Fort Collins, CO. In 2001, Greg returned to Connecticut, and he worked for The Continental Broker-Dealer Corporation in New York City as a Financial Investment Trainee. After passing the Series 7 and Series 63 Uniform Securities Agent State Law Exams in 2002, Greg went to work for Bear-Stearns in New York City as an Associate in the Private Client Services Group. In 2003, Greg took a position as a Fixed Income Investment Strategist and Senior Relationship Manager with Bellehaven Investments in Greenwich, CT. In 2006, Greg was appointed Managing Director for W. J. Mayer & Co. in Greenwich, CT.
Greg's marriage to Meghan Matschke, Director Sponsorships for CBS College Sports Network ended in divorce in 2012. In addition to his parents, Tom and Cecilia Volpe, Greg leaves behind a brother Christopher, his wife Emily and their two sons, Richard and William. Greg is survived by his maternal Grandmother Helyne Del Favero, an Uncle Ronald Del Favero, his wife Claire and their two children Ronald, Jr., his wife Kate and their son Anthony; and their daughter Jennifer, her husband Greg and their two sons Luke and Evan. In addition, Greg leaves behind two stepbrothers, Tom and Bob Volpe; and three stepsisters, Rosemarie Costello, Donna Bell and Dianne Forlenzo as well as nieces and nephews from his loving extended family.
Greg will always be remembered by his many friends as happy, fun-loving, good times guy, and a good and loyal friend. He loved all sports and enjoyed fishing, boating and golf whenever he could. Greg left this world too soon and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
