Margaret McKnight Ropp, 44, passed away on June 22, 2007 at Rosenthal Hospice in Stamford, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family and friends. Margaret was born in 1962 and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended Shadyside Academy, and received her bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics at Vanderbilt University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Margaret received her MBA at Georgetown University. While at Georgetown, she married a fellow Vanderbilt alumnus, Willson Ropp. Following business school, Margaret and Willson moved to Charlotte, NC where daughter Elizabeth was born. In 1992, the Ropps moved to Darien, CT, where William, Susannah and Thomas were born. Margaret was a gourmet cook, decorator and seamstress, but most of all she was a loving and devoted mother and wife and kind friend to many. Margaret was an active volunteer at her church, Darien United Methodist Church, and at her children’s schools. She was a long time member of the board of directors of the Darien United Methodist pre-school. She enjoyed tennis with her friends and entertained all with her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Margaret was predeceased by her father Hugh P. McKnight. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Willson; her children Elizabeth, William, Susannah, and Thomas; her devoted mother, Una McKnight, of Pittsburgh, PA; her parents-in-law, John and Louise Ropp of Jacksonville, FL; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Sharon Mechling of New York City; Jonathan and Cauleen Mechling of Marlborough, MA and Richard and Linda Mechling, Wilmington, NC. Margaret is also survived by Willson’s siblings, Kate and Andy Sherrod of Gainesville, FL; Adams and Laura Ropp of Jacksonville, FL and Ella and Chris Means of Atlanta, GA, and many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Margaret had a plethora of friends who will miss her company immensely. Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at the Darien United Methodist Church with the Reverend Anne Bracket officiating. Private family interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer research, www.cancer.org. Funeral Home: Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road Darien, CT USA 06820
