Obituary of Lillian Schiller

Lillian Schiller, a Darien resident for the past six years, died on Saturday, August 11, 2007, after a short illness. Lillian was born on September 19, 1914 in New York City. She lived in New York and raised a family with her husband Harry who predeceased her. Lillian moved to Puerto Rico in 1958 to run a business with her husband. In 1971 she came back state side, where she and her husband traveled North America in a mobile home for seven years, including all lower 48 states, two trips to Alaska, all the Canadian provinces and trips into Mexico. She then bought a home in Santee, CA where she lived until 2000, then moving to Darien to live with a daughter. She discovered a love of art while living in Puerto Rico and studied art at the University there. She painted and sold art as she traveled the United States. In California, she continued studying art and in Darien she became involved in the art programs at the Darien Senior Center as well as the Writer’s Group. She has two daughters, Joan Gallo of Darien and Elaine Ragazzo of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Keith and Bruce Gallo of Darien and six great grandchildren: Serena, Jason, Joseph, Emilie, Michael, Zack and a brother George Tretter of Maryland. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters and a brother. A memorial service will be scheduled in the near future.
