Obituary of Roberta Palmer Porretta

Roberta Palmer Porretta, a Darien resident since 1962, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Oliver Frederick and Anna Elizabeth Palmer. Roberta was the beloved wife of Frank Porretta; devoted mother of Frank III, Anna, Greg, Matt and Roberta; cherished sister of Bonnie, Barbara and Brad; loving grandmother of Olivia, Roman, Ava and Luigi. Roberta, a former Miss Ohio, raised her five children then went back to school and graduated from The Julliard School of Music. She went on to an international opera career as a spinto soprano singing in such venues as Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center as well as major companies in Chile and South Africa. She had a large repertoire including “II Trovatore”, “Don Carlo” and her signature role of “Tosca”. Roberta was deeply loved and will be missed but she’ll live on in the hearts of her loved ones forever. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, August 20, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John R.C.
