Obituary of Thomas P. Carroll

Thomas P. Carroll a lifelong resident of Darien, Conn., passed away on Sept. 2 in Stamford Hospital after a brief illness. He was 58. Tom was born June 14, 1949, in Norwalk, Conn., son of the late Kathryn and James Carroll. He attended Darien High School, and he served from 1968 to 1972 aboard the Navy’s U.S.S. Plymouth Rock, achieving the rank of second class petty officer. After leaving the Navy, Tom worked as a supervisor in the sheet metal department of Perkin Elmer for more than 20 years. He was employed at Doran Manufacturing for a number of years before attaining a position as account manager at Vernier Metal Fabricating, Inc., in Seymour, Conn., where he worked at the time of his death. An avid animal lover, Tom spent many hours volunteering at PAWS, a Norwalk-based nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless animals. He also gave his time at the Maritime Aquarium when the aquarium opened in 1988. He is survived by his daughter, Evonne Carroll Young and her husband, Rodney, of Arlington, Va., a granddaughter, Zora Young also of Arlington, VA and his sister, Kathryn Pace of Carefree, Ariz. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers James and David Carroll. Friends and family may attend a memorial service at Tilley Pond Park on West Ave. and Lakeside Dr. in Darien, Conn., on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m..
