Obituary of Sanford Bull Kaynor

Sanford Bull Kaynor, a 49 year resident of Darien, CT, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Osborn Retirement Community in Rye, NY. Born on November 24, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late Warren Fox and Margaret (Smith) Kaynor and was married to Laura Sanford in 1953. Sanford was a graduate of Taft School in Waterbury, CT, Yale University and Columbia University Law School. He served for many years as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of U. S. Industries, Inc., and in 1984 became an Option Principal of the American Stock Exchange. He also served as a member of the Board of Finance of Darien, where he resided since 1961. He was a member of Wee Burn Country Club, Darien and the Yale Club of New York City. He was also a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Darien. In 1945-1946, he served in the U. S. Army, initially with the 77th Infantry Division and later as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division in Sendai, Japan. Mr. Kaynor descended from the earliest settlers of the country on both sides of his family. His maternal ancestors included Thomas Hooker, the founder of Hartford, CT and Elihu Yale. His father's ancestors included two who fought in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of the Brandywine and at the Battle of Plattsburg in the War of 1812, respectively. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Laura Sanford Kaynor; his three children, Laura Kaynor Powers, Sanford Bull Kaynor, Jr. and Frederick Kirk Kaynor; his brother William Akin Kaynor; and six grandchildren, Laura Sanford Powers, William Fuller Powers, Jr., James Granville Kaynor; Phoebe Ann Cox Kaynor; Ian Thomas Kaynor and Catherine Lane Kaynor. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Chapel, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM.
