Obituary of Helen I. Kelly

Helen I. Kelly, 94, formerly of Darien, went home to Jesus on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. She passed away peacefully with family at her side at St. James Plaza Nursing Home in St. James, NY, where she resided for the past year. She had been a resident of Darien for more than 50 years and an active member of St. Thomas More parish, AARP and the Darien Senior Center. Born Helen Chanda on December 2, 1916, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Mary Sefcik Chanda and John Chanda, and was predeceased by her nine siblings. Before retiring, Helen worked as an executive secretary for many years, most recently for ITT and St. Joseph Hospital in Stamford. A devoted mother and grandmother, Helen is survived by her daughter Patricia and beloved granddaughter Jessica, of Stony Brook, NY. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home at 2119 Post Rd. in Darien, on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, from 2 until 5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 30 at 11AM at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road in Darien. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery on Hoyt St. in Darien.
