Obituary of Paul Byrne

Paul Byrne, a resident of Darien for over 55 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Tandet Center in Stamford. Born on May 14, 1924 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Edward T. and Alice Guilfoyle Byrne. He was 86. Mr. Byrne joined the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the European Theatre as a Timber Wolf under Major General Terry Allen. After his return home, he continued his education and graduated from Boston University in 1947. He worked as a marketing executive in New York City for both Lever Brothers and the Colgate-Palmolive Company. After a brief retirement he joined The Gene Reilly Group, a marketing research firm in Darien. Mr. Byrne was a longstanding member of the Tokeneke Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Jean Doyle Byrne and is survived by three daughters, Karen Barrett of Rowayton, Alison Westerman of East Greenwich, RI and Deirdre Rogowski of Fairfield, CT. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Andrea Matthews, Amy Goin, and Kate Westerman. He was especially proud to have three great grandsons, Byrne and Gray Matthews and Hudson Goin. Services and interment are private. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien handled the arrangements. The family asks that memorial donations be sent to Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
