Tamara E. Portnick, a resident of Boynton Beach, FL and a former 35 year resident of Riverdale, NY, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2007 at Stamford Hospital. Born in 1937 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Max and Rachael (Lapes) Novie. She was 69.

Tamara received her B.A. in English from City College in New York in 1959 and her M.A. in Reading from Manhattan College. She was a special education teacher with the New York City Board of Education. She is survived by her husband, Irwin Portnick of Boynton Beach, FL; two sons, Gregory O’Gara of Morganville, NJ and Terence O’Gara of Riverdale, NY and two grandchildren, Kaylyn and Natalie O’Gara. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Novie of Las Vegas, NV and a sister, Ruth Roller of Stamford, CT.

Friends may call at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Rd., Darien on Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Service will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT.
