Obituary of Mary Young Donofree

Mary Young Donofree, age 88, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport. She had been a life-long resident of Darien until recently moving to Trumbull. She was the widow of Norman Donofree. Mrs. Donofree taught at the Merrill Business Schools in Norwalk and Stamford for many years, and later worked as secretary to the building inspector at the Darien Town Hall until her retirement. Mary was an accomplished artist and had traveled to Europe many times. She was a great friend to animals: dogs, cats, squirrels and birds, and could often be found working in her yard and feeding the wildlife. Mary is survived by her loving family, daughter Suzanne Reed and husband Thomas of Bridgeport; son Norman Donofree and wife Deborah of Brookfield; and son Brian Donofree and wife Donna of Bethel. She also leaves six grandchildren, Rebecca and Michael Reed, Laura White, Kate Donofree, and Matthew and Devin Donofree; also a great-grandchild, Victoria Portillo. She will be sadly missed by all. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, December 20 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with the funeral to immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home.
