Obituary of Nancy Conley

Nancy Conley passed away peacefully in her home, the Rose Cottage, March 29, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Nancy Sammon was born in Lakeland, Florida in 1929. She graduated from Florida State University with a degree in teaching. After a short spell teaching elementary school in her home town, Nancy decided to broaden her horizons, moved to Chicago and became a stewardess with American Airlines. There she met her future husband, James E. Conley. They were married in 1954, and, as his career in broadcasting progressed, the growing Conley family lived in Devon, PA, and Summit, NJ, before moving to Darien in 1966. Nancy's Florida accent may have faded over the years, but she never lost her southern graciousness, warmth, and charm. She was blessed with a natural radiance and sweet spirit that lit up every room she ever entered. Nancy loved nothing more than the happy commotion of a house full of grandchildren. And her little animals, Georgie and Gracie, held a particularly special place in her heart. A member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church, Nancy had a deep and abiding faith, and was never far from her well-thumbed copy of God Calling. A longtime member of Wee Burn Country Club, Nancy enjoyed tennis, bridge, and picnics at the beach with her family and many, many friends. Nancy is survived by her four children: Clint and his wife, Deborah, of Concord, MA, Peter and his wife, Ana Maria, of Miami Beach, FL, Sally, of Jupiter, FL, and James, of Exeter, NH, as well as ten grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, April 2, 11:00 a.m. at the Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820.
