Obituary of Philomena Grimaldi Pugliese

Philomena "Fannie" Grimaldi Pugliese died peacefully on February 16 at BrideBrook Health facility in Niantic, two days before her 98th birthday. Fannie was born in Stamford in 1913. She was the daughter of Gaetano and Catherine Cassone Grimaldi. She was the oldest of four children: her sisters Nancy Fitzgerald of Stamford, Victoria Oliva of Winter Park, FL, and her brother Anthony of Westport, all predeceased her. As a young woman, Fannie worked as a seamstress in Stamford, and married Michael Pugliese in 1938. They had four children: Lucille Frechette of Niantic, CT; Michele Mastrolillo of Old Saybrook, CT; Carol Pugliese of Provincetown, MA; and James Pugliese of Darien, CT. After moving to Middletown CT in the 1960's, Fannie and Mike retired to Winter Park, FL. Fannie is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Catholic Mass in her honor at 10am on Saturday, February 26 at St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road in Stamford, with interment to follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Stamford.
