Obituary of Robert E. Alexander

Robert E. Alexander, a seven year resident of Rutland, VT and a former long-time resident of Darien, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, VT. Born August 9, 1917 in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Frank and Alice (Christie) Alexander. He was 96. Bob worked for the Darien Post Office for 38 years as a letter carrier and also worked at Ring's End in Darien. He was a member of the Darien Fire Department for 79 years and a former past president, a member of Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge in Darien since 1948, a former president of the Federal Employees Credit Union and a long-time member of the Darien AARP. He was also a long time member of the First Congregational Church of Darien. Bob also served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Helen Fidler Alexander of Rutland, VT; a son, Robert Alexander, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Londonderry, VT; three grandchildren, Steve, Jill and Karen and two great grandchildren, Thomas and Patrick. He was predeceased by a brother, Clifford Alexander. A graveside service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery, 41 Hecker Avenue, Darien on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 1:45 PM.
