Obituary of Miriam Chandler Hett

Miriam Chandler Hett, a resident of Darien for 59 years passed away on February 20, 2013 in Darien. Born on April 11, 1920, in Somerville, MA, she was the daughter of the late George Edward and Mary Graham Chandler. She was raised in Greenwich, CT and later moved to Darien in 1954, to raise a young family of her own. She was 92.
She was a graduate of Rosemary Hall in 1938 and Shorts Secretarial School. She was a personal secretary to Caroline Ruutz-Rees, the first Headmistress of Rosemary Hall. She worked at Atlas Powder, Co. in Stamford, CT, Goodall Fabrics in New York City and until 2003, Harold R. Mull Bell and Associates (HMB) Acoustics in various locations about Fairfield County.
She was a class agent for her graduating class at Rosemary Hall. She was a charter member of both the Darien Senior Center and St. Thomas More Church and served as a committee member for the Darien/New Canaan chapter of the AARP.
Miriam was a gentle, kind, caring, cheerful woman and Mom. She spent 15 years as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed playing bridge, stamp collecting, needlepoint and quilt making.
She was predeceased in 1999 by her husband of 49 years, and lifelong Darien resident, James Francis Hett. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn P. Hett and son-in-law Richard Gill of Saint Petersburg, FL and son Jim Hett of Darien. She is survived by her youngest brother George E. Chandler, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC. She was predeceased by her sister Irene, her brother Edward of Darien and Port Orange, FL, and her sister Jean Morey of New Canaan and Cape Coral, FL.
Visitors will be received Friday, March 1, from 2 5 pm at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road in Darien. A mass of Christian burial will be performed on Saturday, March 2, beginning at 10:30 am at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road in Darien. Interment will be held immediately afterwards at Saint John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue in Norwalk.
