Born in Rhodesia 1931, he spent his entire professional career with Deloitte, CPA; serving as a Partner in Rhodesia, South Africa, Europe, Hong Kong and USA. Ian came to Darien in 1981 on transfer to New York from the Firm in Rhodesia (then Zimbabwe). As an International Partner focusing on Firm management and strategy, he traveled to some 75 countries. Ian was a Senior Lecturer in Accounting/Auditing at the University of Rhodesia; Chairman of The Rhodesian College of Music; Chairman of The Jairos Jiri Association for the Deaf; President of the Rhodesia Society of Chartered Accountants; he also served in the equivalent of the National Guard completing his military commitment as a Major in the First Field Artillery Regiment. A keen golfer (lowest handicap 4) he joined Woodway Country Club winning both Senior and Super Senior Titles, and served on the Board for six years 1998-2004—four years as Treasurer and two as President. Ian was always extremely grateful that he and Monique had “landed” in Darien. He regarded the town and its surrounding country-side of flowing rivers, tall statuesque trees and teeming wild life as idyllic; with the bonus of being within reasonable distance of the World’s Greatest City. His beloved Monique died in March 2011, he is survived by four children and eight grandchildren scattered across the World in England, Africa, Australia and USA A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 8, 2011 at Talmadge Hill Community Church, 870 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Darien. Memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 1266 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902. Edward Lawrence Funeral Home arranged the cremation services. Funeral Home: Edward Lawrence Funeral Home 2119 Post Road Darien, CT USA 06820
