Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Louise Macksamie, who her friends knew as Bonnie, a 27 year resident of Darien, CT, formerly Rochester, NY, died after a brief illness at Stamford Hospital on March 21, 2011, with her husband, Rand by her side.
She was born November 7, 1949 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Robert and Nell Wahl. She graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester. After teaching elementary school briefly before marrying, she became a legal secretary in Boston and then moved on to work at Houghton-Mifflin as a pioneer in the use of digital textbook publishing and editing. After moving to Darien, Bonnie devoted herself to her husband, the rearing of their children, and the managing of the Macksamie household. She was an avid reader and an active member in her longstanding book club group. She loved and lived for watching her daughter and son compete in an array of Darien athletics and thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of other parents whose children were also competing.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Rand, her daughter, Jenny, 24, and son, Matt, 19; brother James Wahl of Dayton, OH; sisters Beth (Robert) Kuzmick of Dayton, OH; Nancy Wahl of Canton, MA; Mary Nell (Frank) Henry of Scituate, MA; sister-in-law Lisa (Michael) Dubrovich and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Scituate C.O.R.S.E. Foundation (Community of Resources for Special Education), P. O. Box 512, North Scituate, MA 02060. C.O.R.S.E. is a non-profit organization, founded in 2006 by Bonnie's sister, Mary Nell Henry, and provides funding for recreational and academic activities for children with special needs.
