Monique Elaine Appleby, born in Rhodesia in 1937, lived on three continents and with husband, Ian, traveled to all but one of the seven continents, came to Darien in1981 and from the start regarded this beautiful corner of the world as home.
Monique was an accomplished athlete representing her high school at all five sports but later in life focused on golf. She was golf champion of four separate golf clubs and latterly a two-time Woodway Ladies Golf Champion; served on the Greens and Grounds Committee of the Club for a number of years. She was a keen bridge player and participated in a number of Darien groups.
Monique's family consisting of three brothers, a sister, four children and eight grand-children are also spread over four continents.
First stricken with cancer 10 years ago, she fought a smiling, courageous battle against this dreaded scourge of mankind, until dying in her home with husband, Ian, by her side.
