Obituary of Lucia Elodia Kuesel

Lucia Elodia Kuesel ("Ellie"), a former Darien resident, died Tuesday, March 28. Mrs. Kuesel was born in Brooklyn on May 1, 1928, daughter of Howard L. Fisher of Brooklyn and Elodia Baldwin Fisher originally of Cuthbert, Georgia. She graduated from Manhasset High School (Long Island) in 1946, Southern Seminary Junior College (Virginia) in 1948 and Duke University (North Carolina) in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. At Southern Sem she was an active equestrian jumper and at Duke she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
After graduation, she worked in several jobs in New York City, notably with the Ogilvy, Benson & Mather advertising agency as one of its initial employees. She retired in 1959 to marry and raise a family.
A lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ellie was a descendant of Abraham Baldwin of Georgia, who signed the U.S. Constitution. She was active in several charities in Darien and Charlottesville, Virginia, where she and her husband spent their early retirement years. They were long-time members of Wee Burn Country Club in Darien and Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville.
Mrs. Kuesel was married to the late Thomas R. Kuesel for 51 years. She is survived by her son Robert L. Kuesel, her daughter-in-law Jane Lembeck Kuesel, her son William B. Kuesel, and grandchildren Chase, Jessica, Robbie, Christy and Jamie.
A private service in her memory was held for her family.
