Richard "Dick" Staniszewski, long time resident of Rowayton passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was the son of the late Henry and Lucille Staniszewski. He was 64.

Dick was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in South Norwalk. He started working at the long time family owned Rowayton Market as a teenager and eventually bought and ran the Market with his father Henry. After selling the Rowayton Market he began a career in the environmental field working with New England Pollution Control for many years and most recently with Enviroshield, Inc. of Stratford. Dick was a member of the Rowayton Fire Department and Rowayton Hose Company for over 40 years. During that time he served proudly in many ranks including; Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief and also sat on the Executive Committee of the Hose Company. He was a past member of the Fairfield County Fire Chief's Association. In addition he was a Member of the Ischoda Yacht Club where he served on the Board of Governors and participated in many functions. Dick was an avid fisherman, who loved spending time on the water, especially on Fish Island with his family and friends on Sunday afternoons. He was also a passionate dog lover who always had a biscuit to offer any dog he encountered along his way.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife Barbara Brigante Staniszewski, two daughters Leslie Staniszewski of Rowayton, Heidi Staniszewski Sherman, husband Edward Sherman, Sr., and Step-Grandson Edward Sherman, Jr. of Milford. He is also survived by his brother Henry Staniszewski, Jr. of Tampa, Fl. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Holly Staniszewski and beloved brother Peter Staniszewski.

A wake will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Rd. in Darien, on Tuesday April 1, 2008 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in his honor at St. Joseph's RC Church, 85 South Main Street in South Norwalk on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 10:30 AM.
