Obituary of James A. Walker

James A. Walker, the son of the late Annot English Walker and Gilbert Walker, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the age of 86. Mr. Walker was a long time resident of Darien from a student at the old Holmes School through Darien High School, Class of 1940. He attended Northeastern University and was a member of Nu Epsilon Zeta Fraternity and was employed at the General Electric Laboratories. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Corp Reserve and served with the 12th Air Force in North Africa and Italy. After his military service he re-entered college and graduated from the University of Bridgeport. He was employed at Pitney Bowes in Stamford as an engineer. He retired after 35 years. Mr. Walker inherited a love of boats and did considerable coastal and inland cruising. He built a number of small boats and boat models. He was a member of Stamford Power Squadron for over 40 years and also belonged to the National Maritime Historical Society. He will be missed by his friends both locally and around the country. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Carling at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in the Chapel, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, P.
