As a very homesick just off the boat student from Ireland at Iona University in the early 1960’s, Jim invited me to his home in Troy during many holidays. The warm embrace of the entire McKenna family, enhanced by Jim’s and my escapades in the Tri-City area, was the perfect tonic.
In the mornings, Mame (as the McKenna boys affectionally called their mother) would open the windows to air out the room, get us up and going and cook up the perfect meal to get us back on track. Dale and Jim’s Connecticut home was equally welcoming, and Dale was equally tolerant of our late-night New York “dinners”.
I have many stories of Jim, but the above best captures for me the character and warmth of my friend.
