Obituary of Barbara Eva McVeigh

Barbara Eva McVeigh, age 87, passed away on August 3, 2026, at The Village at East Farms in Waterbury, CT. She was the wife of the late Edward McVeigh, whom she loved deeply and missed dearly following his passing in 1999 after almost 28 years of marriage.

Barbara was born in Nutley, NJ, on January 22, 1939, the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Pilcz) Joseph. She was a graduate of Pompton Lakes High School, Class of 1957. After graduation, Barbara worked at Woolworth's for several years before beginning her career at Ayerst Laboratories in Little Falls, New Jersey, where she was eventually promoted to the position of Supervisor of the Order Department. She and Edward McVeigh were married in 1971 and later relocated to Norwalk, CT, where they raised their daughters, Donna and Diane. Barbara later worked as an Office Manager at Visi Record System for several decades until her retirement in 2013.

Barbara was known for her kindness and compassion, and her greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Donna McVeigh of Bristol, CT, and her fiancé, Matthew Cacciotti; Diane Curci of Wolcott, CT, and her husband, Joseph Curci; her cherished granddaughter, Alessandra Curci; her sisters-in-law, Judith Joseph and Charlotte Schaeffler; her nephew, Keith Schaeffler; and her nieces, Susan Joseph, Laura Michaelis, and Leigh Finn.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Barbara was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Joseph, Jr., and John Joseph; her brothers-in-law, Paul Violette, Hugh McVeigh, and Simon Schaeffler; her sister-in-law, Patricia McVeigh; and her nephews, James Schaeffler and Steven Joseph.

A private service will be held for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society.
