Obituary of Anne Weed Frate
Anne Virginia Weed Frate, 92, a lifelong resident of Darien, died peacefully at home on May 27, 2026.
She was born in Stamford, Connecticut on July 8, 1933 to the late Clarence E. Weed and Helen T. Gleason Weed of Stamford.
Anne was a 1951 graduate of Darien High School. She married her husband, William Anthony Frate Sr., while he was a student at Harvard. They developed many lifelong friendships during their years spent in Cambridge, MA.
They returned to Darien and raised three children: William Jr., Michael, and Kathryn. Anne also worked for many years as a dental hygienist and surgical assistant for a number of local dentists, eventually finding a "work home" at Middlesex Dental Group with Dr. Paul Gallo where she worked until her retirement.
Anne found community with her many amazing friends at Darien Close, especially following her husbands passing in 2011. She could often be found sitting by the pool, where she would be tanning with a magazine, chatting with neighbors, or swimming with her grandkids—to whom she was affectionately known as "Mimi".
Anne also loved the beach, from the Cape to Florida's West Coast, but she made some of her fondest memories with friends at Darien's Weed Beach.
Anne is survived by her son, William A. Frate Jr. and his wife Dawn of Darien, CT; her daughter Kathryn A. Frate of North Kingston, RI; her three grandchildren, Corey W. Frate, Danielle Hoyt and her husband Ray, Robert J. Knapp and his wife Jessica; and her four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Thomas, Abigail, and Elizabeth. Anne was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, William Sr., her son Michael S. Frate, her parents, and her two brothers, James and Clarence Jr.
Anne's Family wishes to thank Slava (Anne's caregiver) for her 2 1/2 years of lovingly caring for her.
