I first came to know George through the Interfaith Book Club that ran for an amazing twelve years. We covered the classics of all the great world spiritual traditions and then moved on into readings in current affairs. George was an intellectual giant in those gatherings. Well, "giant" is a word you have to keep coming back to when thinking of George.
After Covid brought those sessions to an end, George and I became regular lunch companions first at Tabouli Grill at Bull's Head and then at his senior citizens' residence. He was a born consultant bringing to his friendships insight, curiosity, and compassion. Even in his declining years, his force of personality never declined. He brought to life to the very end a spirited but happy disposition and was known by staff and friends as a gentle giant. He fiercely loved his wife, Caryl.
