I first met Peter over 35 years ago, when my sister and brother‑in‑law married and he and Billie travelled over from the US. It immediately struck me how much family meant to him as he welcomed my parents and myself with genuine warmth. That dedication to his family stayed with me throughout the years, but never more so than when I was stranded in New York during the ash cloud. He and Billie knew how upset I was about not being able to get home, and without hesitation they opened their home to me in Darien and took me to their favourite restaurant for brunch. It was such a thoughtful gesture, offered so naturally, and it’s something I will never forget and will always be grateful for.
