Dear Sisters and Sharon in particular, with whom I've recently spoken to at length. I wish I had stayed more in contact with Patty over the years. She was instrumental in my trips as a child to see dad in NYC. Here are a few of my fond memories: Her voice -- I loved how she spoke and when she spoke to me, I genuinly felt she showed deep love, concern and interest in me. Oh she would say, "Oh Michael" when he was being a brat and tease...yes a grown man, my father! Her scent -- Alliage. She always smelled so sweet. Her cooking -- simple and healthy and delicious - being introduced to new things, like rice noodles. Her love of the dogs -- walking Rex with her in NYC when I was in fourth grade or so. Reminding her of that on one of our last talks this summer, and how Rex would go down off the sidewalk, turn around and make it so simple for us to slip newspaper under him as he did #2. Her attention to detail: The colorful presents she would get for me at Christmas. She always remembered I loved orange. Her patience -- with my dad. Her committment -- to my dad. AND lastly...when I was in fourth or fifth grade I got my long hair that was near my low back cut to a cute pixie cut. I saved my pony tail from that time, and STILL have it, and looked at it and held it this past summer when I knew she was fading. It still lives in it's original box she gave me, a golden box from Lord & Taylor, for ties...probably one she bought for dad. She was a colorful, compassionate, and powerful woman.
