Obituary of Blanca Rosa Torres
Blanca Rosa Lara Torres was born August 10 1925, in Lima, Peru, to Jesús Alejandro Lara and Flora María Magan. She was widowed in 1955 following the death of her husband, Ricardo Benjamín Torres Alegre.
On February 7, 1957, Blanca emigrated from Peru to Connecticut, with her three young children. Alongside her mother and her siblings, they were the first Peruvians to settle in Stamford, Connecticut, where she resided for close to 70 years.
Blanca worked tirelessly throughout her life, often holding multiple jobs to provide for her family. She dedicated decades of service to the very generous Livingston and Tweedy family, and also worked at Stamford Hospital in central supply and the maternity unit. She loved shopping and going to lunch with her friends. A devoted member of the Rosary Society at Saint Mary Church, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting and will always be remembered for her extraordinary work ethic.
She was predeceased by her siblings Graciela, Ismael Hugo and Albertina, and by her partner of 30 years, Antal Parragh of Ünd, Hungary. She is survived by her sisters, María Lara and Zarela Iparraguirre of Stamford, Connecticut.
Blanca leaves behind a legacy of love as the mother to Sonia Morino of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Jorge Torres and his wife Rose of Meriden, Connecticut; and Marco Antonio Torres of Stamford, Connecticut. She was a loving grandmother to Ricardo, Harold (Jennifer), María (Charles), Linsey, Ricky, Cynthia, and Marisa (Jeff).
She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Eric, Britany, Sara, Sophie, Daniel, Julia, Isla, and Fiona, and a proud great-great-grandmother to four and predeceased by one.
Blanca celebrated her 100th birthday in August 2025 surrounded by family and loved ones, a milestone that reflected a century of resilience, family devotion, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her pioneering spirit, and the legacy of love she leaves behind across generations.
