Obituary of Jose Robles Roman

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news that Jose Robles Roman (91) passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, at his home in Darien, CT. He spent his final days surrounded by his daughters, son-in-law, brother-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Joe was born on May 30, 1934, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. At the age of 18, he left his homeland and came to Stamford, CT. Shortly thereafter, Joe met the love of his life, Madeline. Together, they built a beautiful life in Darien, CT, where they shared more than 60 years of marriage, raising their family in a home filled with love, strength, and unwavering devotion.

Joe was a hardworking and dedicated man. He began his career as a welder at Norma-Hoffman in Stamford and later worked as a custodian for the Town of Darien for over 40 years, until the age of 80. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.

Above all else, Joe was a family man. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved. He was the kind of man who would show up for anyone, at any time, without hesitation. His home was always open - a place of comfort, warmth, and laughter for all who knew him. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures: playing pool with his friends and grandchildren, tinkering with cars well into his final days, restoring furniture, running his model trains, making rice and beans, or running out to grab his lottery tickets.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Madeline Roman, his parents Seferino Robles and Antonia Roman, his daughter Barbara Manjuck, son-in-law Anthony Conetta; his brother Evelio Robles, brother-in-law Hector Guzman, brother-in-law Jose Lopez, brother-in-law John Albero (and his wife Viola); brother-in-law Anthony Albero.  He is survived by his loyal and devoted daughters Jackie Conetta and Jo-Ann Sawitsky (and her husband Michael) of Darien; his loving grandchildren William Manjuck III, Melissa Piney (Edward), Michele Gruner (John), Ray Conetta (Alec), Toni-Ann Rongoe (Nick), Michael Sawitsky & Morgan Sawitsky; 7 great grandchildren; his family Aida Guzman, Milta Guzman (James), Dalia Robles, Hilton Robles (Norma), Gabriel Robles (Ana); his brothers-in-law Thomas Albero and Frank Albero (Marie) and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Joe's life was defined by his strength, humility and generosity. He was larger than life in the ways that mattered most - a protector, a provider, and the heart of his family. His presence brought comfort, stability, and love to everyone around him. Though he is no longer by our side, his spirit lives on in the family he built, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe's remarkable life for calling hours on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien CT, with a Mass to follow at 11:30am at St. John RC Church, 1986 Boston Post Road Darien, CT. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien, CT.  Donations can be made to Post 53, Darien, CT  06820.
