Obituary of Marie Longner Ziegler

Marie Longner Ziegler passed away peacefully in her home in Darien, Connecticut on January 18, 2026 after a short time in hospice care. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. She was born September 2, 1959 in South Bend, Indiana to Edward and Eileen (Haffner) Longner. Marie graduated from the University of Iowa with degrees in Business and French. Marie was a flight attendant for United Airlines for over twenty years, eventually gaining enough seniority to work the prized New York to Paris route where she could use her language skills. Marie married Peter Ziegler on July 23, 1994 at a ceremony on Hay Island in Darien. She enjoyed traveling with Peter as they explored many locations across the United States in addition to exotic tours throughout the world. Marie kept in touch with flight attendant friends at the monthly Gal Pals luncheon as well as college friends and family with frequent trips to Iowa. Survivors include brothers Gary (Jamie) Longner of Hiawatha, IA, Martin (Denise) Longner of Ft Mohave, AZ and Ward (Bethane) Longner of Walcott, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Peter, and her sister and best friend, Gail (Tom) Allard.
