Obituary of Anthony John Benedetto Jr.

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony Benedetto Jr. passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at Stamford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, he was a proud graduate of Darien High School, Class of 1961, and spent most of his life in Darien, where he and his wife raised their family and created a lifetime of cherished memories.

Family was everything to Anthony. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Sandra Benedetto, for 63 beautiful years. They had been together since they were just 14 years old, a love story rooted in devotion, laughter, and unwavering partnership.

Anthony was a hardworking man who spent over 40 years employed at Pitney Bowes. He was kind, loving, and lived with his whole heart. Known for his goofy spirit and playful sense of humor, Anthony had a special gift for making those around him laugh. He never took life too seriously and was always happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.

He enjoyed fishing, collecting vintage bar memorabilia, and hosting family and friends in his beloved home bar, affectionately known as “Tony’s Room.” It was there that countless laughs were shared, stories were told, and memories were made.

Anthony is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Benedetto; his granddaughter, Jordan Rubin, and her husband, Jonathan Rubin; his grandson, Anthony Lamendola; and his brother, Louis Benedetto. He was predeceased by his children, Scott Benedetto and Kimberly Benedetto; his grandson, R.J. Irizarry; his parents, Mary and Anthony Benedetto; and his sister, Theresa Chiappetta.

A Celebration of Life will be held with a memorial visitation on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 7:30 PM, at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien, CT 06820.

Anthony will always be remembered with a smile on his face, a joke ready to share, and a heart full of love. His laughter lives on in all who were lucky enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Anthony’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
